About Reflexology
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based around the theory that there are reflex points in the feet and hands which correspond to the parts of the body. It is a holistic approach which aims to treat the whole person at a physical, emotional and spiritual level, and is believed to date back to ancient Egypt!
Reflexology is based on zone therapy which was first descrived by Dr William Fitzgerald, an ENT specialist. He described ten longitudinal zones diving the body, through which there is a flow of energy connecting all of the areas in that zone.
Reflexology was pioneered in Great Britian by Doreen Bayly in the 1960s.
The feet or hands are used for treatment as these are at the extremities of the zones and therefore easier to work on.

At the first session, a detailed medical history will be taken to enable me to best tailor the treatment to your needs. This is of course completely confidential.
You will then be seated in a reclining chair without footwear and offered the use of a blanket as many clients feel that their body temperature drops as they start to relax.
I will begin to apply pressure to the reflex areas of your feet using my thumb and fingers. There is a specific technique that I use and the initial treatment of the feet is done in a set order, and I will treat all areas of the feet. I will aim to detect areas of imbalance as these reflexes feel 'gritty' or 'crunchy' to me and may feel slightly tight or tender to you. After I have treated both feet thoroughly I will re-treat the imbalanced areas to give them a thorough working. Please do let me know if you would like me to adjust the pressure. After the treatment I will discuss with you which reflexes presented as tender.
I will bring music and a scented candle to add to the ambience of relaxation, but if you would rather neither of these were used, or if you would rather use your own music that is totally fine. The main aim is for you to feel comfortable and relaxed.
